In anticipation of natural disasters during the rainy season, Mayor Chalermsak has ordered all Patong Municipality departments to prepare round-the-clock care and assistance for residents.
The proactive measure also aims to mitigate any potential impact on the local economy, Mator Chalermsak noted.
Recent heavy rains have caused soil slides and fallen trees in certain areas, posing risks to residents and affecting tourists travelling in the area, said an official report of the announcement.
One incident involved a landslide in the small street opposite Makro on Nanai Rd. Patong Municipality’s disaster prevention and relief team, along with technical office staff, arrived today to carry out a cleanup operation at the slide site. Road surfaces in the area were also hosed down to help mitigate any accidents.
“Patong Municipality has devised a comprehensive response plan, mobilizing staff and equipping them with necessary materials, equipment, and machinery to ensure continuous support,” the report said.
Mayor Chalermsak highlighted the importance of staying informed about weather conditions, especially since thunderstorms could occur at any time, he warned.
He also explained that Patong Municipality has coordinated with the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) to deploy water pumps, ensuring swift drainage in flood-prone areas.
