The seventh annual edition of the event took place last Sunday (Feb 18) and was split into three separate race categories for both male and female competitors: a 2 kilometre healthy walk, a 4.5km fun run and a 12.7km mini marathon.

All runners who finished each race category received a medal, while those that finished between first and tenth place in each race category also received a trophy for their efforts.

In the fun run and mini marathon cash prizes were distributed to top finishers in both male and female classes as follows: B1,500 to first place; B1,200 to second place; B1,000 to third place; B800 to fourth place; and B500 to fifth place.

Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat was on hand to officially inagurate the event in the early hours of Sunday and also distributed the prizes to finishers once the races were completed.

Governor Sophon was joined by Rewat Areerob, the head of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (PPAO), Aroon Solos, the mayor of Rawai, Phon. R. T. Suchat Dhamphitakvet, commander of the 3rd Navy, as well as representatives from selected government departments.

Mr Solos confirmed that over 1,500 people took part in the three events, made up of local residents and foreigners from overseas.

He added that the event is part of an ongoing drive by Rawai district and the rest of the island to promote a healthy lifestyle to residents, of which exercise is a key component.

Mr Solos also confirmed that all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Islamic Ethics Center at the Noorun Ibadah Mosque in Saiyuan village, Rawai, although a specific amount was not mentioned in official reports.
