The initiative officially kicked off at Thalang Technical College on Thursday (May 29) with over 150 vocational students, teachers and lecturers in attendance.
Organised under the leadership of Kanchana Sriraksa, Director of the OIC Office in Phuket, the event marked the first in a series of youth outreach activities to be held across the island’s three districts ‒ Thalang, Mueang and Kathu ‒ between May and June 2025.
Ms Kanchana emphasised the OIC’s dual role in regulating the insurance industry and safeguarding public rights, stating that educating young people about the value of insurance is vital to building a resilient society.
“Children and youth have both potential and communication skills, especially in digital media,” said Ms Kanchana. “By equipping them with insurance knowledge, we are not only preparing them to protect themselves but also enabling them to pass on this understanding to families, communities and society at large.”
The programme aims to foster awareness of insurance as a risk management tool, especially in the face of increasingly severe natural disasters and financial uncertainties. The initiative also aligns with national efforts to strengthen economic and social security through broader insurance literacy, said an official report of the event.
Participants took part in various interactive sessions, including expert-led lectures on insurance basics, financial planning and communication techniques.
Agencies involved included the Phuket General Insurance Club, Phuket Life Insurance and Financial Advisors Association, and the Phuket Bank Club.
Seven public relations booths were also set up by participating organisations such as the Phuket Justice Office, Bangkok Insurance, Tip Insurance, Allianz Ayudhya, IOI Bangkok Insurance and the Government Savings Bank.
The OIC plans to expand this initiative further in the coming years as part of its broader strategy to embed insurance knowledge in everyday life and ensure that the next generation is well-prepared to manage risks in a rapidly changing world, Ms Kanchana said.
