Confirmation of the figure came at a meeting of the Phuket Provincial Executive Committee for the ‘Center for the Eradication of Poverty and the Development of People of All Ages’ held at Phuket Provincial Hall this week.

The meeting, chaired by Phuket Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai, was attended by representatives from various government agencies and local organisations.

At the meeting, officials reviewed the progress made in 2023 and outlined plans for the 2024 fiscal year (which continues until Sept 30) to address poverty and promote sustainable development.

According to the ‘TPMAP Logbook system [Thai People Map and Analytics Platform developed and operated by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security], Phuket had 3,669 “urgent target households” identified as impoverished in 2023, with 3,894 specific issues requiring attention, said an official report of the meeting.

Of these, 3,551 households passed the screening process, accounting for 100% of target households successfully assisted under the TPMAP Logbook system.

Key accomplishments highlighted in the meeting were reported as:

- Completion of support activities for 3,551 households under the TPMAP system in 2023.

- Achievement of 100% compliance with basic necessity criteria set by the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) for 2024.

- The successful implementation of the GLO Care Home Project, which provided a new home for one local resident, Ms Oratai Boonchuwong, in Wichit, with a budget of B200,000.

Vice Governor Samawit praised the collaborative efforts of the agencies involved and urged all parties to continue working towards sustainable poverty eradication and development.

He emphasised the importance of aligning with the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy to ensure long-term improvements in quality of life for residents across all age groups.

The meeting underscored Phuket’s commitment to addressing social challenges and promoting sustainable development, ensuring that all residents benefit from the province’s progress and resources, the official report concluded.
