Phuket Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai led a field visit to the Lan Nawamin area, off Phuket Rd, yesterday (Dec 23), joined by representatives from key agencies.
Joining the outing were officials from the Phuket Provincial Office of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, along with representatives from Phuket City Municipality and local police.
The initiative focuses on identifying and supporting homeless individuals and beggars in compliance with legal frameworks, said an official report of the field visit yesterday.
It also seeks to raise public awareness about the issue and encourage community cooperation in reporting cases, the report added.
During the visit, authorities discovered evidence of makeshift shelters used by homeless individuals and identified five individuals living in vulnerable conditions.
Officials documented their cases, conducted drug tests and began the process of integrating them into assistance and rehabilitation programs, the report said.
“This initiative is part of our commitment to restoring dignity and improving the quality of life for those in need,” Mr Samawit said.
“We also call on the public to join us in addressing this issue through understanding and cooperation,” he added.
