Officials continue drugs crackdown

PHUKET: Officials have arrested a suspected drug dealer in Thalang District, accused of distributing crystal methamphetamine (ya ice) and ketamine ‒ locally known on the streets as ‘ice-K’ ‒ to teenagers in the surrounding areas.

The Phuket Provincial Administration’s Special Operations Unit, working closely with the Thalang District Office, launched an investigation following complaints of drug sales involving a transgender woman targeting local youth, said an official report posted online last night (Apr 24).

After a period of surveillance and field investigations, officers apprehended a suspect in Thalang. 

The suspect was not named in the official report of the raid, adn the location of the arrest was also not reported.

Apparently seized from the scene were: 44.19 grammes of ya ice, 9.33g of ice-K, a mobile phone, a digital scale, drug paraphernalia and 88 small clear plastic bags typically used for packaging drugs, the report said.

The suspect now faces charges for possession and intent to sell Category 1 and 2 narcotics, and for the illegal use of narcotics.

The suspect was taken to Phuket City Police Station for further legal proceedings, the report concluded.
