The work is part of the ongoing project to have power and communications cables throughout Phuket Town installed underground, Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas explained in an announcement.
The project, which began on Nov 14 last year and is scheduled for completion by Nov 7 this year, aims to improve convenience and safety for both residents and tourists, contributing to Phuket’s reputation as a world-class tourist destination, Mayor Saroj said.
However, the construction will temporarily impact traffic flow in key areas, he noted.
The current period of work began on Sunday (Aug 11) and is expected to be completed by Saturday (Aug 17).
High-voltage cable manholes are being installed along Phuket Rd (in front of the Accounting Office and the U-turn near Wanchai shop) and Thepkrasattri Rd (in front of Roland Furniture, opposite Soi Jai Uthit).
The work will be carried out nightly from 9pm to 5am, requiring the closure of one traffic lane in the affected areas, Mayor Saroj explained.
“Phuket City Municipality has urged the public to avoid these routes during the construction period and to refrain from parking along the road shoulders in the work zones,” he said.
“Motorists are advised to drive with caution, and those affected by the construction can report issues by calling 085-6058725 or 083-249 8729.
“After construction of the underground cable conduits and the installation of the cables underground have been completed, Phuket City Municipality will improve the road surface,” Mayor Saroj said.
