Joining the governor for the opening ceremony on Saturday (Sept 13) were Phuket Provincial Police Deputy Commander Pol Col Phasakorn Sonthikul, Thalang District Chief Siwat Rawangkul, Srisoonthorn Mayor Chalermpol Kerdsap, Phuket Chamber of Commerce President Montawee Hongyok, representatives from Laguna Resorts & Hotels and officials from local agencies.
The road, a key shortcut connecting Phuket Town, Phuket International Airport and popular tourist areas such as Cherng Talay and Bang Tao, had long been too narrow for two vehicles to pass, creating bottlenecks and raising the risk of accidents.
The expansion project has now widened the road to standard specifications and improved the surface, providing a safer and more efficient route.
The project was carried out through close cooperation between Phuket Province, the Phuket Highways District, Srisoonthorn Municipality, the private sector and community members, noted an official report of the event.
Laguna Resorts & Hotels provided more than B3.8 million to fund land acquisition, widening and surfacing works.
“The new road will help reduce pressure on Thepkrasattri Rd, shorten travel times, and provide safer travel for residents and tourists alike,” Governor Sophon said at the ribbon-cutting.
The newly opened road is the culmination of successive efforts by local authorities to improve secondary roads in the area.
“The project marks an important step in addressing traffic problems across the province by creating new routes and reducing pressure on existing main roads,” Governor Sophon said.
Following Saturday’s opening, the governor and attending dignitaries posed for a commemorative photo with community leaders and project partners.
