Mr Ronnarong, a 51-year-old Bangkok native, is to arrive in Phuket and begin his new duties on Monday (Oct 21).

He is to replace current Phuket Vice Governor Norasak Suksomboon, who has been appointed to the position of Vice Governor of Chiang Rai Province.

A graduate from Ramkhamhaeng University with a degree in political science, Mr Ronnarong began his public service career in 1996 when he was first appointed as District Chief of Pai, Mae Hong Son.

He worked in the Central Investigation and Legal Affairs Division before joining the Department of Provincial Administration. He later served as District Chief of Ban Thi, Lamphun.

He later took on the role of Director of the Supervision, Investigation and Suppression Division, eventually becoming the Director of the Law Enforcement Operation Center for Administrative Personnel.

As DOPA Inspector-General, Mr Ronnarong was instrumental in a series of high-profile raids in Phuket targeting what was called “organised crime”. The raids resulted in the seizure of illegal goods, including alcohol, cigarettes and e-cigarettes, from businesses operating near schools and markets.
