Patong Police Station received the report at about 1:31am. Pol Lt Col Narupon Phruttinon, the duty investigating officer, was dispatched to the scene near the curve before the Ab Zab restaurant on the road heading toward Kamala.
Officers arrived to find the body of Myint Myat Aung, 22, lying on the roadside. His motorcycle, a grey Honda Click 160, was found damaged nearby with signs of impact against a concrete barrier.
Police were told that Mr Myint Myat Aung had been riding with a group of friends shortly before the crash. One of them, Tay Zar Moe Myint, also from Myanmar, told officers that he and the deceased had been socialising with friends at a house in Soi Khlong Bang Wat before heading to meet another friend in Kamala.
He explained that he was riding ahead with another friend while Mr Myint Myat Aung followed alone. As they approached the curve, he heard a loud noise “like a motorcycle falling”. When he returned to check, he found his friend critically injured. Mr Myint Myat Aung died at the scene.
A forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital conducted an initial examination at the scene before the body was transported for further examination. Police said the exact cause of death is still under investigation.
Officers photographed the scene, recorded evidence and informed the deceased’s relatives. Patong Police confirmed that no other vehicles were reported to be involved.
Investigators will continue questioning witnesses and collecting any additional evidence that may help clarify the circumstances of the crash, Patong Police said.
