According to police reports, the incident occurred at about 1pm on Saturday (Feb 15). The victim, identified as ‘Ms Kai’, a Thai national, was asleep in her home when the suspect, later identified as ‘Soe Aung’, broke in.
The suspect allegedly committed indecent acts and attempted to rape the woman. Fortunately, her son returned home in time, prompting the assailant to flee.
Ms Kai reported the incident to Wichit Police Station later that evening, at around 8:43pm. She was subsequently sent for a physical examination at Vachira Phuket Hospital.
Upon receiving the report, Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Chatree Chueakaew ordered an immediate investigation. A team led by Pol Lt Col Atthawat Suwannarat and Pol Lt Col Anurak Klangnarong, in coordination with local officials, conducted an extensive search for the suspect. Their efforts led to the arrest of Soe Aung, who was found to have entered Thailand as a migrant worker. A urine test later confirmed drug use.
During police questioning, Soe Aung admitted to the crime, stating that he was intoxicated at the time. He claimed familiarity with the victim’s son and often visited their home.
On the day of the incident, he had been drinking nearby and noticed that the victim was alone. He then followed her into her room, restrained her and began removing her clothing. However, he fled the scene when the victim’s son unexpectedly arrived home.
Further medical examinations were conducted to determine the extent of the assault. Authorities confirmed injuries on the victim, while forensic tests were ordered to establish additional evidence.
The victim’s son, ‘Mr Phonlawat’, stated that he had a strong premonition something was wrong with his mother and rushed home.
Upon arrival, he saw the suspect leaving, shirtless and out of breath, which raised his suspicions. He immediately checked on his mother, who was in shock and initially reluctant to speak about the incident. Later medical examinations revealed injuries consistent with the attack.
The suspect now faces multiple charges, including trespassing, attempted rape and drug use. Legal proceedings are underway as authorities continue their investigation.
