Motorcyclist killed in early-morning crash in Phuket Town

PHUKET: A 21-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Phuket Town early yesterday morning (Oct 26).

The accident occurred on the bypass road southbound in Moo 5, Ratsada, at around 3am, with Phuket City Police receiving a report from their radio centre that a motorcyclist had died at the scene.

Pol Lt Urassaya Daengtako, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Phuket City Police Station, was assigned as the traffic investigator on duty and notified her commanding officer before proceeding to the scene with a forensic doctor.

The deceased was identified as Jirayut Nilchom, 21, a Thai national from Sakon Nakhon Province. He sustained severe injuries to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A green and black Honda Wave motorcycle was found nearby. Police documented the scene with photographs and a crime scene map before coordinating with rescue workers to transport the body to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Phuket City Police Chief Pol Col Chatree Chukaew confirmed the report and said investigators will continue examining the cause of the accident.

According to national road safety agency ThaiRSC, 94 people have died and a further 22,207 people have been injured in road accidents in Phuket since the beginning of the year.
