The exercise is being led by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), with Director-General Phasakorn Boonnalak in Phuket yesterday (june 25) to officially open the three-day training exercise for officials.

The programme includes seminars, lectures on tsunami risks and warning systems, emergency management training, evacuation drills, virtual exercises and practical demonstrations.

The key tsunami drill will take place simultaneously across the six provinces tomorrow at 1:30pm, based on a simulated tsunami scenario starting at Kamala, before impacting the other five provinces.

Deputy Director-General of the DDPM Sahat Wongskulwiwat, Phuket Vice Adul Chuthong and officials with firsthand experience from the 2004 tsunami are among those participating in the exercise, which is designed to strengthen disaster response capabilities at all levels, said an official report.

Held at Rajaprachanukroh School 36 in Kamala, the event will include representatives from government agencies, the private sector, public organisations and community volunteers.

DDPM Director-General Phasakorn said the exercise will not only improve disaster response systems but also help build long-term, sustainable tsunami preparedness across the region.
