The southwest monsoon, which is currently intensifying over the Andaman Sea, is expected to bring abundant rainfall, including heavy to very heavy rain, to several provinces, said the advisory, issued by Wirote Lewcharoenthrap, Director of the TMD’s Southern Meteorological Center (West Coast) branch, located near Phuket airport., at 5am today.
The affected areas include Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.
Residents are advised to be vigilant as flash floods may occur, the advisory warned.
Wind waves in the Andaman Sea are expected to strengthen, with wave heights reaching two to three metres in the upper part of the Andaman Sea, and over three metres in areas with thunderstorms.
All ships are advised to exercise caution, avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas, and small vessels in the upper part of the Andaman Sea are urged to remain ashore.
