Mr Phiphat was on the island as part of Prime Minister Paetongtarn’s delegation to Phuket to discuss issues directly related to the island’s tourism growth.
Mr Phiphat’s site inspection included meetings with employers, establishments and the Sea Heaven construction project to promote awareness of labour policies and gather feedback on challenges faced in managing and protecting foreign workers, said an official report of the site visit.
During his visit, Mr Phiphat emphasised the Ministry of Labour’s commitment to ethical employment practices.
He urged employers to ensure that foreign workers are hired legally, enabling them to receive the full protection of their rights under Thai law.
Additionally, he called on employers to rigorously monitor workplace conditions, including occupational health and safety standards, to comply with the Labour Protection Act.
The Sea Heaven project, a seven-storey condominium under construction by SPS Phuket Construction Co Ltd was a focal point of the inspection.
The project employs 85 Myanmar workers at its Sakhu site. Another construction project by the same company, the Hamooni project in Rawai, employs 307 Myanmar workers.
Across both sites, a total of 392 foreign workers are employed, all of whom hold valid work permits, the official report confirmed.
In alignment with the Cabinet resolution of Sept 24, 2024, the company has been proactive in submitting required documents via the electronic system, arranging health checks, applying for work permits and creating personal identity records for its workers, the report said.
The visit was aimed at highlighting the Ministry of Labour’s dedication to fostering ethical labour practices and ensuring the welfare of foreign workers in Thailand, while also addressing the operational concerns of employers, the report concluded.
