Meth pills seized, arrests made in Kamala, Patong raids

PHUKET: Authorities led by officials from the Kathu District Office conducted “surprise inspections” at nightlife venues in Moo 3, Kamala last night (July 29), including those near Soi Pa Jak, as part of the national ‘No Drugs, No Dealers’ campaign.

The crackdown was led by Kathu Deputy District Chief Sikrin Aninbon, alongside Kamala Police, village headmen, and local volunteer defence teams.

A total of 23 people were subjected to urine tests, with two testing positive for drug use. One person was arrested after being found in possession of drug paraphernalia and a knife, while another was issued a consent form for further action.

The Kamala operation will now be expanded to track down suspected drug suppliers, in line with the ‘One User per Dealer’ policy, which aims to identify and prosecute higher-level dealers and trafficking networks operating in the area, the Kathu District Office reported.

Earlier, on Monday (July 28), a separate raid in Patong saw officers seize 100 methamphetamine (ya bah) pills from a suspect on Soi Bang Ton Khao. The drugs ‒ 99 orange tablets marked with “WY” and one green tablet ‒ were all classified as Category 1 narcotics.

The suspect and the drugs were handed over to Patong Police for further legal action.

Both operations were part of a broader drug suppression campaign by the Kathu District Office, supported by local police and defence volunteers (OrSor).

The efforts are aimed at maintaining public safety and curbing the flow of drugs in Phuket’s tourist-heavy zones, the Kathu District Office noted.
