The event, hosted on Thursday (Aug 28) at the Seabed Grand Hotel, was organised by MCOT Phuket with support from the Anti-Human Trafficking Fund under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
Phuket Vice Governor Suwit Pansengiam presided over the opening ceremony, which welcomed students, teachers and parents from Phutthamongkolnimit School, Phuket Municipality School, Ban Samkong Municipality School, Phuket Vocational College and Thalang Technical College.
The workshop encouraged participants to become ‘cyber warriors’ – using online media wisely, learning how to protect themselves from digital threats, and sharing safe media practices with their peers.
Expert speakers from the Technology Crime Suppression Division and the For Freedom International Foundation provided insights into cybercrime, digital evidence collection and real-world cases of online exploitation. Interactive sessions gave students the opportunity to practise fact-checking, identify online risks, and understand how traffickers operate in the digital space.
“Online threats are a significant problem in society today, especially the rising number of children and young people becoming victims of new forms of human trafficking,” said Rojana Boonchuang, Radio Station Manager of MCOT Phuket.
“This is the fourth year we have organised this project. Our goal is to build immunity among youth and give them the skills to protect themselves and others in the online world,” she added.
Students who joined the training said the experience gave them a new perspective on the dangers of digital media. They reported gaining confidence in spotting fake news, avoiding online scams, and helping friends and family to stay safe online.
The initiative reflects MCOT Phuket’s ongoing efforts to use media as a tool for positive social impact, with youth empowerment at the core of the fight against online exploitation.
