Thalang Police were alerted to the incident at 4:50am by the 191 call centre. The stabbing occurred on the northbound lanes of Thepkrasattri Rd, opposite Phuket Poly Products Co in Moo 7, Thepkrasattri.
Pol Lt Anusarn Klin-Kiew, Investigating Officer at Thalang Police Station, and other officers arrived at the scene with rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation and a Thalang Hospital ambulance.
They found the victim, later identified as Phongsathorn Jinowat, 33, suffering from three stab wounds to the right side of his ribcage. He was unconscious when officers arrived. Rescue workers provided emergency aid before rushing him to Thalang Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
At the scene, officers found a bicycle lying on its side, a pool of blood and a pair of sandals believed to belong to the victim. The area was cordoned off for collection of evidence.
Police said Mr Phongsathorn had recently been released from prison and had a history of criminal offences, including theft and drug possession. Records show four previous convictions: theft cases 486/2568 and 30/2567, and narcotics possession cases 450/2553 and 599/2567.
Pol Lt Anusarn confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. “We are checking CCTV in the area and gathering witness statements to track down the perpetrator,” he said.
Police have also confirmed that the initial report of the stabbing came from a local resident, who notified rescue workers after spotting the injured man lying by the roadside.
