Officers were called to the scene, a shed near Wat Manik, in Moo 7, Srisoonthorn, around 1:30pm on Thursday (July 10), police said.
Police and rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation arrived to find the injured man (name withheld) lying in a pool of blood with a 20-centimetre laceration to his throat.
He was unresponsive and cold to the touch but still had a pulse. A blood-stained pocket knife was recovered at the scene. Rescue teams administered first aid before rushing him to Thalang Hospital.
Initial inquiries revealed that the man, who lived alone, had a history of drug use and had previously received treatment for neurological issues. His family believes he was hallucinating at the time of the incident.
Speaking to reporters by phone, the man’s sister said he had been acting erratically the previous night, claiming people were trying to harm him by planting drugs and attacking him.
“He ran off and left his bag in different places. I didn’t ask much because I can’t deal with him anymore. He’s hurt me so much,” she said.
She added that her brother had been in prison for drug offences and was released late last year. Despite her efforts to care for him since his release, she said his behaviour had become increasingly unstable.
“He was hallucinating again, saying people were trying to kill him, even hiding under the bed. I have my own daughter to worry about. I can’t do it anymore,” she said, adding that she suffers from anxiety and is afraid to visit him in hospital.
At last report police said they were continuing their investigation.
