Police were called to the shrine at 7:55am, where rescue workers and forensic doctors confirmed the man, identified as Montree Jongthirawong from Srisoonthon, Thalang, had died by hanging.
CCTV footage showed the incident occurred at about 4am. Relatives told police the man had been under stress from financial problems. They expressed no suspicion regarding the cause of death, Phuket City Police reported.
While no signs of assault were found and police confirmed the cause of death as asphyxiation, offices said that further investigation was ongoing.
