Police received a report of the incident at about 10:50am and arrived at the two-storey house in Moo 8, Wichit, where the tragedy occurred at around 9:20am.
Investigating officer Pol Lt Col Chonlathit Khiao-on said the victim was found in a second-floor bedroom belonging to his younger sibling. He was identified by relatives as a local resident. Officers confirmed the man had died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
At the scene, police found a 12-gauge single-barrel shotgun with eight rounds. The weapon was legally registered to a relative of the family. There were no signs of a struggle or disturbance in the room.
The man’s father, who discovered the body and alerted police, told officers that his son had long suffered from depression and was under severe stress due to the family’s heavy debts of about B10 million and his mother’s bedridden condition.
He said his son had previously attempted to harm himself two months earlier but was stopped in time.
The father told police he does not suspect foul play and believes his son took his own life.
The body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination as required by law.
Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang said the case will proceed according to standard legal procedures.
