Patong Police were alerted to the incident by a video of the fight posted on a popular local social media page.

The 58-second clip showed one young ladyboy, or ’katoey’ in Thai, walking away when another, larger, ladyboy approached from behind and kicked her in the back.

More attempts to hit her followed, with the young ladyboy still walking away, then several more ladyboys joined in the assault.

The young ladyboy made it about 20 metres down the road when the larger ladyboy returned and dragged the original victim all the back by her hair.

All the while, onlookers, both Thai and foreign, stood by and decided to not intervene.

After learning of the incident Patong Police Chief Pol Col Chalermchai Hirsawat ordered officers to investigate.

Patong Police confirmed that the incident happened at about 3:30am yesterday (May 14).

The incident involved two ladyboys visiting Phuket as tourists, who returned home without filing any charges, police noted.

Pol Lt Col Naruephon Phruttinon, the investigating officer, confirmed today that six of those involved in the assault were each fined B1,000.

No reason for the assault has been given.
