The donation was formally handed over at noon yesterday (Sept 24) by Wang Zhijian, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Songkhla Province.
Accepting the equipment on behalf of the foundation was its president, Lek Tantiwongpaisan, who was joined by Li Chenglong, Deputy Consul-General of China in Phuket, the foundation’s board of directors, Mueang District Chief Pairoj Srilamul, Phuket Town Mayor Suphot La-ongphet, local officials and members of the media.
The contribution includes a rescue boat with engine and a range of disaster relief gear to be used in search, rescue and emergency missions across Phuket and neighbouring areas.
“This donation will greatly benefit the foundation’s disaster relief operations, including search, rescue, and relief missions for water disaster victims,” Mr Lek said. “The Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation will fully utilise this for the benefit of society.”
Mr Wang highlighted that the donation reflects the longstanding friendship between China and Thailand and reinforces cooperation in humanitarian assistance. Local officials echoed the sentiment, noting that the new equipment will significantly enhance the foundation’s ability to respond quickly to floods, storms and other emergencies.
The Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation is one of the island’s key volunteer rescue organisations, providing free emergency services, disaster response and humanitarian aid. The foundation said the new equipment will be deployed immediately to strengthen preparedness ahead of the ongoing monsoon season.
