Organised by the Andaman Natural Resources Conservation Foundation at Chalermprakiat Park, a group of volunteers collected rubbish from the beach in an act regarded as making merit ahead of the reverred date of Her Majesty’s birthday tomorrow (Aug 12).
The clean up emphasised respect for Her Majesty while contributing to promoting the beach as a clean and welcoming destination for tourists by conserving natural resources and the marine environment.
Additionally, 10 rubber and golden teak trees were donated as auspicious gifts to representatives from selected agencies which were then planted in an area near the beach.
There were stalls on site offering food and healthy beverages, while there were also boothes promoting traditional medicine from pupils at the Prince of Songkla University (PSU) Phuket Campus, and basic Thai medical treatment services and advice on self-care by 4th year students from the Faculty of Thai Traditional Medicine, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus.
Similarly, there was a booth promoting microplastics manned by students from the Faculty of Technology and Environment at PSU’s Phuket Campus.
The event was inaugurated by Rear Admiral Phuchong Rodnikorn, Deputy Commander of the 3rd Naval Area, who was joined by: Samran Sinthong, Secretary-General of the Andaman Natural Resources Conservation Foundation; Santhat Khummit, Deputy Mayor of Kamala Subdistrict Administrative Organization; and Pol. Col. Somsak Thongkliang, Superintendent of Kamala Police Station.
Also in attendance were heads of government agencies and private sector entities, local administrative organisations, volunteer citizens, officials from the 3rd Naval Area, students from PSU Phuket Campus and Phuket Rajabhat University, military cadets, entrepreneurs and hotel staff who all joined in the rubbish colection efforts.
