The hefty fines were handed out yesterday (Dec 10) during yet another inspection carried out under the tourist safety campaign ordered by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat.
Leading the inspection was Phuket Marine Chief Natchapong Pranit, joined by fellow marine officials along with officers from the Phuket Marine Police, district officials and personnel from the Volunteer Defense Corps (OrSor).
Inspections were carried out at Ao Por Pier and Yamu Pier in Thalang yesterday morning, and later at A.E. Pier on Koh Siray.
At Ao Por Pier, the officers discovered a passenger boat operating with an expired license. The operator was fined the maximum B10,000 and received an official warning to comply with legal requirements.
Later at A.E. Pier officials identified 25 jet-skis operating without licenses. Each operator was fined B10,000 per jet-ski in accordance with Section 9 of the Thai Navigation Act B.E. 2456, as amended by Section 60 (No. 14) B.E. 2535, Phuket marine officials confirmed.
The total fines for unlicensed jet skis amounted to B250,000. Operators were instructed to cease providing tourist services until their operations comply with legal standards.
The inspection campaign targeted jet-skis operating without licenses or violating zoning regulations. The Phuket Marine Office emphasised that such violations were punishable by fines of up to B10,000 and urged operators to adhere strictly to the law.
“This coordinated effort reflects Phuket Province’s commitment to ensuring safety, order and compliance within its maritime sector,” said Mr Natchapong.
Such inspections would continue to deter illegal activities and uphold the province’s policies, he added.
