The raid took place on Monday (June 23) after the Phuket branch of the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) received complaints about the illegal sales.

The complaint identified a rental property in Moo 6 on Pracha Samakkee Rd, RaTsada, as the suspected location, explained an official report of the raid.

Pracha Samakkee Rd starts beside the main SuperCheap store on Thpkrasattri Rd, north of Phuket Town, and ends near the bypass road.

The raid was led by Akkara Suwatthikun, Chief of the Phuket Provincial Defense Office Special Operations Unit, alongside provincial defense officials and members of the Volunteer Defense Corps (OrSor).

Following an investigation that confirmed probable cause, officers secured a search warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court on Sunday (June 22). The raid was carried out at around 11:10am on Monday.

During the search, officers seized 1,481 packs of cigarettes, B2,968 in cash and documents and parcels linked to the illegal sales.

While photos at the scene showed two suspects present, the official report of the raid marked that only the woman was arrested and charged.

The woman arrested, not named in the report, faces charges under the Excise Act B.E. 2560 for possession of untaxed or improperly taxed goods and for selling or holding for sale goods on which full taxes have not been paid, the report said.

The suspect and the seized items were handed over to Phuket City Police for further legal proceedings.
