The ceremony, which started at 5:30pm, featured a procession from the Ban Khian shrine to the temple. Spectators were treated to cultural displays including Thep Banterng dance performances, Chuichai dance performances, and a reenactment of the Thalang battle by the Thalang Women’s Group. Students from Muang Thalang School added to the spectacle with their Manora dance.
The event included the presentation of offerings by a group of 25 notables taking part, and a candle lit ceremony led by Governor Sophon.
The ceremony yesterday came as the annual three-day Heroines Festival gets underway, with a formal laying of wreaths at the Heroines Monument today (Mar 13).
The popular festival, held at Victory Field in Thalang, will begin tonight, complete with a light and sound show complementing the historical drama played out live on stage and hundreds of stalls selling local delicacies.
