The warning, initially issued at 5pm yesterday, and re-issued at 5am today (Sept 2), forecast heavy rain and strong waves expected in the Andaman Sea and southern coastal regions.
The southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and southern region is forecasted to strengthen, leading to increased rainfall across the area, the warning, signed by centre director Wirot Liwcharoenthap, explained.
“Residents of Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun provinces are advised to brace for heavy to very heavy rain, which could result in flash floods and forest runoff,“ Mr Wirot said.
He urged people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during the period.
In addition to the rainfall, sea conditions are expected to worsen from Wednesday (Sept 4). Waves in the Andaman Sea are predicted to reach heights of two to three metres, with waves exceeding three metres in thunderstorm areas, Mr Wirot noted.
Sailors were urged to exercise caution, avoid sailing in stormy conditions, and small boats were advised to stay ashore until conditions improved.
The weather centre will continue to monitor the situation and release updates as necessary, Mr Wirot said.
