Continuous downpours caused water levels to rise in several areas, particularly in Thalang District and Mueang Phuket District. Notably, flooding was reported near the Phuket Post Office on Montri Rd in Phuket Town. Areas in Ratsada also suffered heavily.
Officials are closely monitoring Klong Bang Yai, which begins in Kathu and flows more than 20 kilometres through key residential zones, including Wichit and Ratsada subdistricts, before reaching central Phuket Town, where, after coursing through the heart of the town, empties into Phuket Bay at Saphan Hin.
The canal is crucial for drainage in the province and could be a flashpoint if rains persist, officials noted.
The Thai Meteorological Department issued Weather Advisory No. 6 early this morning, warning of continued heavy to very heavy rain and strong wind waves affecting Phuket and other provinces along the Andaman coast today and tomorrow (June 10-11).
The advisory noted that the southwest monsoon currently sweeping over the Andaman Sea is strengthening. Wave heights are expected to reach two to three metres, with higher waves in areas experiencing thunderstorms.
Small boats are advised to remain ashore, and all vessels should exercise caution.
Residents were urged to stay informed and watch for signs of flash flooding and water accumulation, especially in low-lying and flood-prone zones.
