Heavy rain warning issued for Southern Thailand

PHUKET: The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a heavy rain warning for Thailand’s southern region, forecasting severe weather conditions. The department warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and near waterways.

According to the latest announcement, the easterly wind current moving through the Gulf of Thailand, the Andaman Sea and the southern region is expected to intensify rainfall across several provinces.

While the notice came into effect yesterday, the provinces listed to be affected today and tomorrow (Apr 3-4) are given as:

Apr 3: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

Apr 4: Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

In addition to the rainfall, strong waves are expected in the Gulf of Thailand, with heights reaching up to two metres, and even higher in areas with thunderstorms. Boats putting to sea are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in storm-affected zones.
