The TMD forecast, valid from 6am today until 6am tomorrow, predicts thunderstorms covering 60% of the island, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours. Winds from the southwest are expected to blow at 15-30 km/h.
At sea, waves are forecast to reach one to two metres, rising higher than two metres in areas affected by thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution, while small boats should avoid venturing offshore.
The day’s temperatures are expected to range from a low of 25°C overnight to a high of 32°C during the day.
Phuket Town has already recorded 152.1 millimetres of rainfall this month, contributing to a total of 1,511.4mm so far this year. Yesterday saw 16.4mm of rain recorded in the municipality.
Local disaster officials are already on watch for the water level in Bang Yai Canal, which runs through the heart of Phuket Town.
Authorities are urging residents and tourists to take care during heavy downpours and to be mindful of hazardous sea conditions.
