Present for today’s ceremony were heads of local government offices, military personnel, police, government officials as well as more than 3,000 volunteers.
Gen Sakolkhet conducted the ceremony in front of the HM The King’s image, and explained that The King’s purpose was to unite people by conducting activities for the benefit of communities without expecting anything in return, and to remind the people of the four major national institutions: the country, the religion, The King and the people.
The ‘We do good things with our hearts’ campaign is being coordinated through the Royal Volunteer Project Centre in Bangkok, Gen Sakolkhet explained.
“The centre is a place that works to coordinate the Royal Household, the government sector, the private sector, and the people to join together to fix basic problems in Thailand,” he said.
“This event is to bring together all sectors to ‘Keep Phuket Clean by our Hands and Hearts’. This campaign is ongoing to raise awareness of cleanliness among the people of Phuket,” he added.
After Gen Sakolkhet concluded his speech, the volunteers took a pledge three times then separated into groups to collect litter at Saphan Hin Park.
