On Friday (Dec 5) the country will commemorate King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great’s Birthday, recognising his lifelong dedication to improving the country through development projects, rural support initiatives and humanitarian work. The day is also celebrated as Thailand National Day and Father’s Day.
Government agencies, schools and many businesses will be closed. Operations resume on Monday (Dec 8).
The next public holiday is Constitution Day, on Dec 10, marking the promulgation of Thailand’s first permanent constitution in 1932, following the transition from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy.
The day highlights the importance of democratic governance and civic rights. Government offices will close for the day and reopen on Thursday (Dec 11).
To usher in the New Year, the country will enjoy public holidays from Dec 31 through to Jan 4. The extra public holidays have been announced to give Thais across the country an opportunity to travel, reunite with family and prepare for, and enjoy, New Year celebrations.
Government services will close in line with the Cabinet’s announcement of a special holiday on Jan 2, extending the New Year break. Phuket immigration office and other government services will resume normal operations on Monday (Jan 5).
During all holidays, Royal Thai Police, Tourist Police, hospitals and emergency services will remain open.
Most bank branches inside shopping malls are expected to operate as usual, while main branches will close.
