The Governor and his wife, Mrs Busadee, were driving along Thepkrasattri Rd at about 10:20am when they came along a motorbike rider who somehow had an accident near the Heroines Monument, said a report posted by the Phuket branch of the Public Relations Department (PR Phuket).
The couple stopped to provide assistance to the rider. Exactly what had happened to cause the accident, and exactly what injuries were sustained by the rider were not reported.
Apparently the motorbike rider had driven from Phang Nga to travel to Phuket Provincial Court. Before the journey, the motorbike rider had apparently taken antidepressants and sleeping pills, said the PR Phuket report.
The Governor provided first aid and cleared the area where the incident happened to prevent a repeat accident, the report added.
The Governor and his wife stayed at the scene until a rescue vehicle from Srisoonthorn Municipality arrived and took the motorbike rider to receive medical treatment.
“The province still has measures in place to take care of citizens and tourists with the goal of leaving no one behind,” said the report by PR Phuket.
According to national road safety agency ThaiRSC, 59 people have been killed and a further 9.085 people have been injured in accidents on Phuket’s roads since Jan 1 this year.
