The ‘Local Administrative Organisation Football Competition’ is an annual event where various public sector departments field teams as part of an exercise geared to enhance unity and boost relations en masse.
Governor Sophon oversaw the opening ceremony of this year’s event at the Plai Laem artificial pitch complex in Saphan Hin yesterday afternoon before taking to the pitch to showcase his football prowess.
The Governor led his team is a special VIP match that also saw participation from Phuket Vice Governors Adul Chuthong and Norasak Suksomboon, as well as Phuket Town Mayor Supachoke La-ongphet and selected government officials.
In total 11 teams from various districts will compete in the competition, which is played every Tuesday afternoon at the Plai Laem facility, from yesterday until Apr 25.
The 11 districts competing are as follows: Sri Soonthorn; Ratsada; Mai Khao; Rawai; Thepkrasattri; Patong; Phuket Town; Karon; Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO); Wichit; and Kathu.
The objective of the tournament is to promote and create unity between local government organisations based on the values of true sportsmanship, Governor Sophon explained in his opening address.
This includes competing, team work, collaboration, while understanding the merits of how to lose, how to win and how to forgive, he added.
The exercise can help build a better, more unified public sector that can better serve the public in a variety of ways, Governor Sophon concluded.
The first day of fixtures was as follows (although no results were posted in the official report):
- Sri Soonthorn versus Wichit
- Ratsada versus PPAO
- Kathu versus Karon
- Rawai versus Phuket Town
- Thepkasattri versus Patong.
