The meeting followed the residents gathering to submit a formal request to the Governor, asking for a solution after some had received police summonses in connection with the land dispute.
Many expressed deep concerns about the security of their homes and their right to remain on the land.
MP Chalermpong later explained in a public post that he had attended the meeting to help find a solution to the issue involving the plot of land known locally as the NorSorLor land (“crown land”) in Kamala.
During the talks, the affected residents outlined the long history of the community and explained how the area’s social and living conditions had changed over time.
They also raised concerns about the impact of certain government regulations on their lives.
Governor Sophon acknowledged the residents’ concerns and formally accepted their petition. He instructed the Kamala Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (OrBorTor) to gather factual information from those affected, which will be used to help guide the next steps.
According to the official report of the meeting, the Governor confirmed that all relevant agencies will be invited to a follow-up discussion to ensure the issue is considered properly and in line with official procedures.
