The three-day event, held from November 13 to 15, is part of the ‘Safe Food Project and Preserve the Thai Loy Krathong Tradition 2024’ initiative, aiming to honour and preserve Thailand’s cultural heritage, said an official report of teh event.
Joining Governor Sophon in opening the festivities was Srisoonthorn Mayor Chalermphon Kerdsap and a host of local officials, including Thalang District Chief Pairoj Srilamul, local government officials, police officers and community leaders.
Mayor Chalermphon explained that the festival is intended to uphold Thai customs by offering a platform to showcase local art, food, and wisdom while celebrating the spirit of Loy Krathong.
The event features a procession of krathong floats from eight local villages and private organisations, a Little Noppamas beauty contest, local Phuket food demonstrations, traditional games and over 120 food stalls.
The municipality will also award the ‘Clean Food Good Taste’ designation to select vendors as part of its commitment to safe and quality food.
Leading the entertainment last night was popular artist Ekkachai Sriwichai. Popular artist Am seatwo will perform in concert tonight (nov 14), while fellow popular artist Sompong Wonglukklak will perform live on stage on the the night of Loy Krathong on Friday (Nov 15).
The festivities at Srisoonthorn include a light display and fireworks show, and a ‘seven-coloured forest’ display. There will also be traditional dance performances on stage as well as an outdoor movie screening of ‘Stories of Phuket’s Local Culture’.
Festivities at Bang Maruan in Srisoonthorn start at 6pm each night.
