Each province has been allocated a budget of B50 million baht to tackle urgent concerns related to environmental conservation and sustainable development, the governor explained.

Governor Suwannarat emphasized the significance of the proposed projects in mitigating environmental challenges that, if left unaddressed, could have far-reaching consequences on the local economy and the tourism sector, which are integral to Phuket’s development.

The two projects presented by Phuket Province for approval are:

  • Phuket Provincial Waste Disposal Center Project: Managed by Phuket City Municipality, this initiative seeks a budget of B35 million baht (though the actual cost is B40mn) to establish an advanced waste disposal centre. The project aims to streamline waste management processes, contributing to a cleaner environment and reduced ecological impact.
  • Bang Yai Canal Water Wall Construction Project: Administered by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO), this project focuses on constructing a water wall along the Bang Yai Canal within Satree Phuket School. The proposed budget is B15mn, significantly lower than the estimated project cost of B26.5mn. The wall is expected to address environmental concerns while enhancing the school’s infrastructure.

Both projects highlight the collaboration between Phuket Municipality and the PPAO, with each entity committed to covering the remaining budgetary requirements for their respective projects, Governor Sophon explained.

Governor Sophon emphasised the critical role these projects play in safeguarding Phuket’s reputation as an economic hub. The province is renowned for its contributions to tourism, education, and investment, making it a trusted destination for both domestic and international stakeholders.

The proposed budget of B50mn, if approved during the mobile Cabinet meeting, is anticipated to provide tangible benefits to the people of Phuket by ensuring the successful implementation of these vital environmental initiatives.

The projects align with the province’s commitment to sustainable development, promising a positive impact on the economy and the overall well-being of its residents, he added.
