CIB officers, working with officers from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), arrested the fugitive in Chumphon, the CIB confirmed in a report posted online yesterday (June 2).

The date of the arrest was not reported.

The CIB named the fugitive only as ‘Mr Wutthichai’. He was arrested at the parking ramp area of Brand Drinking Water Limited Partnership, located in Tambon Khan Ngoen, Lang Suan District, Chumphon Province.

The incident leading to the arrest dated back to April 10, 2008, the CIB reported.

Wutthichai was drinking at a venue where alcohol was served in Kathu District when he became involved in a heated argument that escalated into violence.

During the altercation, Wutthichai used a knife to stab the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim later reported the incident at what was then called Kathu Police Station, now known as Patong Police Station.

Despite multiple attempts to evade capture by frequently changing locations and jobs, Wutthichai taunted law enforcement through posts on his personal Facebook account, the CIB noted in their report.

In his posts, Wutthichai boasted about his actions and dared the police to arrest him, claiming he was not afraid of anyone and criticising the authorities’ efforts. “Do you have any brains?” one post said.

Persistent investigations by the CSD eventually tracked Wutthichai to a durian shop in Lang Suan District, Chumphon. Officers monitored his movements and apprehended him as he was leaving the shop and heading towards the parking area.

Wutthichai confirmed his identity and acknowledged the outstanding warrant for his arrest, the CIB report said.

He was informed of the charge against him, “attempting to intentionally kill another person”, and ws read his rights before being brought back to Patong Police Station for prosecution, the report noted.
