The operation, carried out at about 7:30pm on Sunday (Sept 14), was led by Kathu District Chief Akkaraphon Suthirak Chittsuphap, together with Deputy District Chief Anurak Poolsak and members of the Kathu District Defence Volunteer Unit.

The raid was announced only yesterday (Sept 15).

The four suspects – Thai nationals aged 31 to 65 – were caught playing a traditional dice game, known locally as ‘hi-lo’ or ‘Sic Bo’.

Seized in the raid were gambling equipment, including a cup with three dice, a Sic Bo grid sheet, and a B500 banknote believed to be used in the betting.

One suspect admitted to acting as the bookie, arranging the gambling and taking bets.

The arrests took place at a makeshift site behind a SuperCheap store on Phra Metta Rd in Patong, Kathu District Office reported.

All four men, along with the seized items, were taken to Patong Police Station and charged with illegal gambling and betting without a licence, the office confirmed.
