Foreigner rescued after big bike plunges into ravine

Rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation’s Patong branch were alerted to the accident shortly before midnight. They arrived with specialist equipment to find the rider injured and stranded on the steep slope after his big bike skidded off a curve on the coastal road.

The man, identified by police as 36-year-old Agapitov Vasiliy, had suffered multiple injuries, including a “serious deformity” to his upper right leg.

Rescue teams secured the area before lowering ropes and a stretcher down the ravine. Working against the steep terrain, rescuers managed to lift Mr Vasiliy safely back to the roadside before rushing him to Patong Hospital for urgent treatment.

His motorbike, which had become lodged in a tree high above the ground, was later retrieved and taken to Patong Police Station.

Officials warned that the incident serves as a stark reminder for motorcyclists to exercise extreme caution on Phuket’s winding coastal roads, particularly at night and on sharp bends.
