The incident occurred at 5:15pm on Monday (Sept 15) on the northbound lanes of Thepkasattri Rd in Koh Kaew.
The rider, seen travelling against the heavy traffic flow, appeared to swerve to avoid colliding with another motorbike that was travelling in the correct direction.
He lost control of the motorbike and struck a small safety pole then slammed into the front steps of the Indian Motorcycle Phuket showroom.
Fortunately, the rider suffered only minor injuries, though his motorcycle’s front wheel was badly twisted.
Witnesses said the rider was wearing a helmet, which likely saved him from serious injury after he struck his head on the stairs outside the showroom.
The video was first posted by the Facebook page ‘Super Roodh’ with a caption reading: “He was driving against traffic and crashed into a new motorcycle. Poor light pole. A foreigner driving against traffic – Phuket should send him in for a contest.”
Social media users quickly flooded the post with comments, with some joking, “He must have been in a rush to book a new bike,” while others questioned, “Who rented the motorcycle to him?”
Police have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the incident.
