At around 2.30am on Tuesday (May 14), Patong Police Station was alerted by the public that a tourist in a state of intoxication was causing a nuisance to citizens and tourists in the area of Loma Circle.

Eight police officers, led by Capt. Sanit Aiyasuwan, arrived at the scene and tried to persuade the foreign man to calm down. Apparently, the man “could not control his emotions and tried to fight the officers,” Patong Police reported.

Officers used force to apprehend the foreign man and take him to Patong Police Station to sober up and face charges of “being drunk with alcohol or other intoxicants, behaving in a chaotic manner, and causing a nuisance in public.”

“In apprehending the man, officers followed the principles of arrest tactics for the safety of responding personnel,” the police report stated.

“If left unattended, the man could have caused danger to the life or property of others,” Patong Police Station explained.

Despite the case being made public on May 17, three days after the arrest, the incident report still contained the line that the man’s name and nationality were unknown as he was too drunk to communicate.
