Five-metre python removed from Patong street

PHUKET: Rescue workers urge Phuket residents to take necessary precautions ahead of the upcoming rainy season, which forces snakes to migrate from their traditional dry-season habitats. The warning was issued after first-responders were called to Patong over the weekend to remove a five-metre-long reticulated python from the street.

At around 10.40pm on Saturday (Apr 27), Vincent Modell and fellow rescue workers from Rescue Team Volunteers Phuket and Kusoldharm Foundation faced a challenging operation when they were called to remove a five-metre-long reticulated python from a drain in Patong.

The snake was reported on Soi Phrabaramee 3, after locals witnessed it killing a cat and preparing to consume it. The python was safely rescued and is set to be released back into the jungle.

This type of snake can grow up to 10 metres in length and possesses extraordinary strength. We strongly advise against attempting to handle snakes yourself. Please call professionals,” Mr Modell stated in a post on the Snake Guy in Phuket Facebook page.

Both Rescue Team Volunteers Phuket and Snake Guy in Phuket are non-governmental organizations dependent on community donations.

"We need your support to continue our work. Donations are critically important," the rescue teams appealed.

Donations can be made to Mr Modell’s bank account at SCB (account number: 408-020016-1) or via PromptPay (phone number: 080-864-8092).

To request snake capture or a property survey, contact Snake Guy in Phuket at 080-864-8092 or visit their Facebook page.

Snake sightings are a daily occurrence in Phuket, though many go unreported. On the same day Mr Modell and his team were called to Patong, their colleagues from Wichit Municipality successfully removed another python near the well-known Chaiyo Seafood Restaurant.
