At an official press conference at Provincial Hall on Tuesday (May 21), Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat confirmed that a number of specially organised events will take place in the lead up to the auspicious occasion, which takes place on July 28.

The events are part of a nationwide initiative organised by the Ministry of the Interior which will see identical ceremonies taking place throughout the country to mark the special occasion, Governor Sophon explained.

The three physical activities of walking, running and cycling will coincide with a nationwide procession of the royal flag. The flag will travel throughout the country, exchanging hands in each province, and is set to arrive in Phuket from Krabi on June 8. It will then be forwarded onto representives in Phang Nga province before making its way to Ranong, Chumphon, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phetchaburi, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon provinces.

While demonstrating loyalty and respect to His Majesty the King on his birthday, the flag procession and associated physical events also serve to unite the people of Thailand by emphasising the importance of good health and exercise.

Further details on the specific walking, running and cycling activities will be released via the official Phuket PR department in due course, it was confirmed.
