The suspect, identified only as ‘Ms Brenda’ (surname withheld), was taken into custody at midday on Friday (Feb 14) while attempting to extend her stay in Thailand in Phuket.
Ms Brenda was detained at the Visa Extension room at the Phuket Immigration Office in Phuket Town, Phuket Immigration reported.
A background search through the Immigration Bureau’s system revealed an active arrest warrant against her, issued under Criminal Court No. 1783/2563 on Nov 24, 2020.
The warrant accused Ms Brenda of “fraudulently deceiving others by presenting false information or concealing facts that should have been disclosed”. She was also charged with entering false information into a computer system in a manner that could cause public harm.
Following the discovery, immigration officers presented the arrest warrant to Ms Brenda and, with the assistance of a language interpreter, informed her of her rights. She confirmed her identity and admitted she had not been previously apprehended for the charges.
The suspect was subsequently transferred to Chok Chai Police Station in Bangkok for further legal proceedings, Phuket Immigration confirmed.
