The ‘Phuket Lobster Street – Phuket Lobster Festival 2025’ was held from Sept 5-7 at Dragon Square, in Queen Sirikit Park, in Phuket Town. Vice Governor Suwit Phansengiam presided over the opening ceremony on Friday evening (Sept 5), joined by senior officials, local leaders, and community representatives.
The festival highlighted the ‘Seven-Coloured Lobster Trail’, recently recognised with Geographical Indication (GI) status for its distinctive flavour, texture and striking appearance. The designation not only underlines the lobster’s status as a symbol of Phuket’s seas but also boosts the economic value for local fishing communities, Vice Governor Suwat explained.
Visitors to the event enjoyed a wide variety of lobster dishes prepared in street-food style, alongside cultural performances, workshops and exhibitions. A community market featured GI products including Phuket pineapple, pearls and buffalo oranges.
Phuket Provincial Fisheries Officer Prayut Rattanaworn said the event aimed to strengthen Phuket’s position as the ‘Lobster Capital of Thailand’ while promoting ecotourism and sustainable seafood practices.
“The seven-coloured lobster is not just a product, it is a source of pride and identity for Phuket people,” he said.
Organised by Phuket Provincial Office in collaboration with the Provincial Fisheries Office and local communities, the festival drew both residents and tourists, combining gastronomy with Phuket’s cultural heritage.
Officials said the event also reflects Phuket’s broader strategy to develop food-based tourism while supporting fishermen and small producers.
