Drug raid nets more than 6,000 meth pills

PHUKET: A raid in Cherng Talay has landed the arrests of four suspects with with “drug addicts” taken into custody, officials have reported

The raid, which comprised provincial officials, district officials, Cherng Talay Police and even personnel from the Volunteer Defense Force (OrSor), was carried out at an unregistered house in Moo 4, Cherng Talay, at about 7:20pm last night (May 16).

The raid followed a tip-off from local residents who were fed up with drugs being sold at the site, causing a nuisance for people in the area, said an official report of the raid.

However, the report listed only three suspects actually arrested for illegal possession of drugs.

One was arrested after being found in possession of 6,082 methamphetamine pills (ya bah) and  2.35 grammes of crystal meth (ya ice), along with B10,590 and “many other items”.

The suspect was charged with illegal possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell.

Accused 2 and 3 sell serious type 1 drugs (amphetamine) by having them for sale without permission. Illegal use of category 1 drugs (methamphetamine) along with each seized item. 

A further two suspects were charged with illegal possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell after one was caught with 26 pills of ya bah and the other with 2.03g of ya ice.

Three people were detained after apparently arriving at the site to buy drugs. The three were deemed to be drug addicts and referred for treatment. One of the three was found to be a Myanmar national who was had entered the country illegally.

A total of 6,206 ya bah pills and 4.38g of ya ice were seized in the operation, noted the official report.
