The raid was carried out by a team led by Phuket Provincial Defence Office Chief Akara Suwatthikul, joined by other Provincial Defence officials. Personnel from the Phuket branch of the Volunteer Defence Corps (OrSor) were present as enforcers.
The task force, armed with a warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court, targeted a shop on Koh Sirey in Ratsada, east of Phuket Town.
Officials reported one person arrested in the raid, who was not named in the reports.
An official report of the raid noted that the one individual arrested now faces charges of:
- Possession of untaxed goods or goods with incomplete tax payments under Section 203 of the Excise Act B.E. 2560.
- Sale or possession for sale of untaxed goods or goods with incomplete tax payments under Section 204 of the Excise Act B.E. 2560.
- Concealment, distribution, or transport of goods known to be associated with a violation under Section 242 and Section 246, first paragraph, of the Customs Act B.E. 2560, in conjunction with Clause 4 of the Ministry of Commerce’s notification on the prohibition of importing baraku, electronic baraku, or e-cigarettes into the Kingdom B.E. 2557.
- Sale of baraku, electronic baraku, e-cigarettes, or related products in defiance of Consumer Protection Board Order No. 9/2558.
The number and type of items seized, and their street value through sales, was not disclosed in the report.
Regardless, it was confirmed that the one person arrested was taken Phuket City Police Station for further legal proceedings.
