The work begins along Phuket Rd tonight (Apr 29), from the intersection of Kra Rd and Ong Sim Pai Rd and will continue to Soi Kho Phai, Phuket City Municipality said in its announcement posted online earlier today.
“Phuket City Municipality has coordinated with National Telecommunications Public Company Limited (NT) to expedite the improvement of the electrical system to underground cables… At this time, National Telecommunications Public Company Limited or NT has informed that it is ready to proceed with construction of the said project on Monday, April 29, 2024,” the announcement said.
The work tonight will begin with the required excavation and the laying of PVC pipes and the installation of manholes, the announcement explained.
The work will start at 8pm each night and continue through to 5am. Traffic will be allowed to resume along the road each day, the announcement added.
“Such an operation may cause inconvenience in using the route for traveling back and forth and the daily life of the people in the area. We therefore apologize for the inconvenience on this occasion,” Phuket City Municipality said.
Once the communications cables have been installed underground along Phuket Rd, the electrical supply cables will then be installed underground, Phuket City Municipality added.
Further, once the work along Phuket Rd is completed, the installation of cables will continue along sections of Dibuk Rd and Thepkrasattri Rd, Phuket City Municipality noted.
“Once the operation is completed, it will make the city landscape beautiful. It is safe and develops the quality of communication signals to be stable, usable and of good quality.
“Please drive carefully… For ease of traveling Please avoid the route during this time,” Phuket City Municipality advised.
The announcement by Phuket City Municipality today that communications cables will be installed underground along Phuket Rd tonight coincides with an announcement by the Phuket branch of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA Phuket) of a series of major rolling power outages in the same area tomorrow (Apr 30).
Oddly, the Phuket City Municipality announcement made no mention of the power outages, and the PEA Phuket announcement made no mention of the communications cbales being installed underground.
Of note, the main Phuket Immigration office in Phuket Town, actually located on Phuket Rd, will be affected by the power outage.
